So here’s the thing about Captain’s Quarters – you know how some places just nail that sweet spot between being charming and actually comfortable? This is one of those places. I mean, the whole “As seen in Beyond Paradise” tagline might sound a bit gimmicky at first, but honestly, once you’re there on Shutta Road overlooking Looe, you get why they filmed there. The location is pretty spectacular – you’re perched up on Craigside with these sweeping views over the harbor and out to sea that’ll have you taking way too many photos.
The rooms themselves are what I’d call “properly done” – they’ve managed to keep that maritime character without making you feel like you’re sleeping in a theme park. You’ll find thoughtful touches like actual reading lights (thank god), decent water pressure in the showers, and windows that actually open so you can hear the gulls and the gentle bustle from the harbor below. Parking can be a bit tight – it’s Cornwall, so the roads weren’t exactly designed for modern cars – but they’ve sorted out spaces for guests, which honestly is half the battle in Looe. The staff seem to genuinely know the area too, not just the standard tourist spots. When I asked about good walking routes that wouldn’t be packed with day-trippers, they pointed me toward some coastal paths that were absolutely perfect.
What really sets this place apart though is how it sits in Looe itself. You’re close enough to wander down to the harbor for fish and chips or a pint at one of the proper local pubs, but far enough up the hill that you’re not dealing with the summer crowds right outside your window. The 8.1 rating feels about right – it’s not trying to be some luxury resort, but everything works as it should, the beds are comfortable, and you wake up to those views every morning. I’d definitely go back, especially in shoulder season when Looe has that lovely quiet charm and you can actually get a table at the good restaurants without booking weeks ahead.

The property was clean and had everything you needed for a self catering staff. In a quiet location with on site parking.

The views from the room window was stunning of the river and across onto the trees.
The accommodation had everything you needed, but there was no hanging space in the bedroom for clothes, it was in the kitchen area.

The apartment was lovely, clean and well fitted out and able to walk into the town of Looe. The communication from our host Sarah was informative and friendly and even folded our washing for us. As we were travelling with a hire car the car park space was perfect and we were able to park the car and walk into town from our apartment and drive to the nearby villages. Very happy with our stay.

Location was good, view were excellent.
What could be improved: Smoke detector in kitchen area went off while cooking breakfast . Phoned the owner 3 times but no response. Alarm was ringing for about 25 minutes. Why have a smoke detector in a kitchen area? Should be a heat detector surely. Well located, own parking & EV charging point (very rare in Cornwall & Devon). Loved the pet llama doorstop (photo). Teapot & cooking oil. Good view across west Looe

Fantastic view over the river and lower town. Comfortable flat for a small family, easy walking distance into the town for the seafront, shops, restaurants etc. And a parking space which are like Gold dust in Looe during high season. Friendly and helpful hosts gave us everything we needed.
