Honestly, when I first walked up to this place on Causewayhead, I wasn’t entirely sure what to expect – the name “Bright~ Town Center~ 2 bed~Penzance” makes it sound like someone was having a rough day with their keyboard. But you know what? Sometimes the best finds are hiding behind wonky names.

The location is actually brilliant, and I mean that in the most practical sense. You’re literally a two-minute walk from the harbor where the Scilly ferry departs (crucial if you’re catching that early morning boat), and Chapel Street with all its pubs and cafes is right there. I could smell the pasties from the bakery down the road most mornings, which honestly became my unofficial alarm clock. The building itself sits on a pretty typical Penzance street – nothing too fancy, but it’s got that solid Cornish stone thing going on that makes you feel like you’re actually somewhere with history, not just another generic rental.

Inside, well, it’s definitely brighter than the name suggests. The two bedrooms are properly sized – I mean, you can actually walk around the bed without doing some weird sideways shuffle – and whoever kitted this place out clearly understood that people want to spread out a bit when they’re on holiday. The kitchen’s got everything you need if you want to cook (the local fish market on Saturdays is worth hitting up), though with all the decent restaurants within stumbling distance, I didn’t use it much. What I really appreciated were the little touches that suggest someone who actually stays in rentals designed this: proper blackout curtains, enough outlets near the beds, and a shower with actual water pressure. The WiFi worked fine for video calls back home, which saved me from having to explain to my boss why I looked so relaxed.

Parking can be a bit of a dance – there’s no dedicated spot, but honestly, that’s Penzance for you. I usually found something within a block or two, and once you’re settled, you barely need the car anyway. The train station’s walkable if you’re heading up-country, and if you’re doing the tourist thing around West Cornwall, everything’s pretty close. I actually loved the slightly lived-in feel of the neighborhood – it’s not all polished up for visitors, so you get a real sense of the town. The seagulls are properly aggressive around breakfast time (fair warning), but that just means you’re near the action.

The 8.5 rating makes total sense to me – it’s not trying to be some fancy boutique experience, but it nails what most people actually want: a clean, comfortable base that doesn’t feel like a hotel room and puts you right in the middle of things. I’d definitely stay here again, especially if I was planning to explore the Penwith area or needed to catch ferries. Just maybe don’t expect luxury spa vibes – this is more like borrowing a really well-organized friend’s place while they’re away.

    Central and very comfortable.

    It is a cosy place to stay close to the Penzance Railway Station. Shopping is convenient because there are quite a lot of supermarkets, groceries, bars, and shops nearby. We were offered Cornwall brand biscuits and chocolates, which were tasty. The sofa bed was a bonus, in addition to the 2 beds upstairs.

    The property is right in the centre of Penzance. For some people, 14 steps up and 14 steps inside might be an issue, but we had no problems with the steps. The house is light, clean and had many facilities.

    What could be improved: We were surprised not to find toilet paper, kitchen towels, body wash/soap for the shower, no waste paper baskets in the rooms. These are standard in other houses I rented. Also the washing machine was not working properly — and we only found out while in the house, not before.
