Hotel Description
You know what really gets me about Brakestone Cottage? It’s literally tucked right into the heart of Port Isaac on Dolphin Street, and I mean *right* in the thick of things – but somehow it still feels like your own little sanctuary. The moment I walked up to the place, I could hear the seagulls and that constant gentle murmur of the harbor just around the corner, which honestly never gets old.
The cottage itself has this wonderful lived-in charm that you just can’t fake. I’m talking proper Cornish character here – those thick stone walls that keep everything surprisingly quiet despite being steps away from where all the Doc Martin filming happens (and yes, you’ll definitely spot tourists wandering around with their phones out). The rooms feel authentically cozy without being cramped, and there’s this lovely attention to detail that makes you think the owners actually care about the place. The bathroom was spotless, the bed was comfortable enough that I didn’t wake up with a crick in my neck, and the little touches – like proper local information instead of generic tourist pamphlets – made all the difference.
What really sold me on this place though was the location advantage that most people don’t realize until they’re there. You’re maybe a two-minute walk to the harbor where you can grab the best crab sandwiches at the Golden Lion, and honestly, being able to stumble back after a proper Cornish evening is worth its weight in gold. Plus – and this is crucial if you’re driving – there’s actually decent parking nearby, which anyone who’s tried to navigate Port Isaac’s narrow streets will tell you is basically a miracle. The cottage sits at 4 stars with an 8.8 rating, and honestly? That feels about right. It’s not trying to be some fancy resort (thank goodness), but it delivers exactly what you want: comfort, character, and a genuine taste of village life. I mean, you’ll hear the early morning fishing boats if you’re a light sleeper, but that’s part of the charm, isn’t it? You’re staying in a working Cornish fishing village, not some sanitized tourist bubble.

Louise from United Kingdom – 26 November 2024 (9/10)
Warm and cosy. Well equipped. Bedrooms very comfortable. The kitchen and equipment was of a high standard
What could be improved: Given that it was winter, entry 4pm, and exit 10am times ungenerous.
Minor: No washing up clothes in kitchen on arrival. House keeper did supply later.
Too few toilet rolls, had to scavenge from various cafe toilets!! Didn’t want to buy large packs!
Would have liked control of heating but owner responded promptly.
Although 6 beds, would have been very cramped with just one bathroom.Desmond from Netherlands – 13 September 2024 (9/10)
The property is located in the heart of Port Isaac in a quiet narrow street of white cottages and oozes cottage feel. It comes with everything you need and wifi was veeery welcome with mobile coverage being non-existent.
What could be improved: The car is parked at some 15 minute walking distance. On nice days that walk is enjoyable, albeit challenging for less mobile or not so fit people.Elizabeth from United Kingdom – 25 August 2024 (9/10)
Clean, tidy, location, lots of character.
What could be improved: NothingZoe from Australia – 17 June 2024 (9/10)
This beautiful quaint cottage situated near the harbour in Port Isaac, is comfortable and well appointed. Everything is supplied: linen, crockery, cutlery, TV, DVD player, books, games, comfy blankets, new oven, cooktop, dishwasher, and washing machine.. The renovated kitchen and tasteful decoration does not detract from the cottage atmosphere. Capable of sleeping 6 across 3 bedrooms, this compact cottage feels roomy.
It's central location is close to pubs, restaurants, cafes and places of interest. A basket of scones with jam and cream greeted us weary travellers on arrival and the owners kept in regular touch by email through Booking.Com. We had a wonderful 5 days and would not hesitate in recommending Blakestone Cottage for any family holiday in this most picturesque Cornish village.Kenneth from Australia – 13 June 2023 (9/10)

What could be improved: outhouse where washing machine was need to be cleaned upLkch from United States – 7 May 2023 (9/10)

Colin from Australia – 21 February 2023 (9/10)
location in the heart of Port Isaac (Wenn) was fantastic
What could be improved: steep stairs – can’t be helped as cottage very oldBrian from United Kingdom – 10 November 2022 (9/10)
Home away from home, right in the town centre
What could be improved: Nothing to do with the wonderful cottage but be prepare to walk uphill to car park as there's no parking in town or by the cottageAmy from United Kingdom – 4 August 2024 (8/10)
We loved the location & how close it was to the harber.
Martine from Canada – 1 May 2024 (7/10)
Quaint cottage in the heart of the village.
What could be improved: I’m a frequent traveller to Port Isaac and it was the first time i rented a place where i wasn’t in control of heating. I had to ask the owner to put more heat, but was only allowed to have heating at night. They leave a bunch of wool blanket and i had to use a few to keep me warm. Would rather have heating than blankets…
