Hotel Description
You know what? I wasn’t expecting much when I first pulled up to Hengar Manor – honestly, the name sounds a bit posh and intimidating. But this place actually surprised me in the best way possible. It’s tucked away in this gorgeous countryside setting just outside Bodmin, and I mean properly tucked away – you’ll want to double-check your satnav because the lanes get pretty narrow as you wind through the Cornish countryside to get there. The manor itself has that classic English charm without feeling stuffy, if that makes sense. It’s definitely earned its 4-star rating, and that 8.8 guest score? Yeah, I get it now.
What really struck me was how they’ve managed to keep the historical character (the building’s got some serious heritage) while making everything feel genuinely comfortable for modern travelers. The rooms have these lovely period touches – think exposed beams and traditional furnishings – but the beds are actually comfortable and the WiFi works properly, which honestly isn’t always a given in these older properties. I stayed in one of the rooms overlooking the gardens, and the morning light streaming in was just perfect. The staff seemed to genuinely know the area too, not just the usual tourist spots – they pointed me toward this brilliant little pub in St. Breward that I never would’ve found otherwise. Parking’s straightforward, by the way, which is always a relief when you’re dealing with rental cars and unfamiliar territory.
Here’s the thing about the location that makes it special – you’re close enough to both Bodmin Moor and the coast that you can actually do both in a day if you’re feeling ambitious. I mean, you could drive to Padstow for lunch and still be back for a proper countryside evening walk. The manor sits in this sweet spot where you feel properly away from everything (seriously, the quiet at night is incredible if you’re used to city noise), but you’re not completely isolated. They do a decent breakfast that’ll set you up for exploring, and while the dinner menu isn’t huge, what they do is done well – proper local ingredients and all that. I’ll be honest, it’s not the cheapest option in the area, but for what you get – the setting, the service, that genuine sense of being somewhere special – it feels worth it. Especially if you’re looking for somewhere to properly unwind rather than just crash between sightseeing days.

Liked the location and holiday park.
Convenient location for visit to tintagel castle.
I liked the fan heater in bathrooms😄.
What could be improved: No lock in one of the bathrooms, that was so shocking! Instead there was a hole 😨.
No dishwasher
No washing machine
Not suitable for long stay, fortunately our stay was short.
I found it difficult to find the property but was part my fault, the instructions were spot on, I should have read more carefully.Mary from United Kingdom – 12 April 2025 (9/10)
The property was spacious and clean with everything we could have needed including fast WiFi. The location is fabulous with lots of beautiful places to visit nearby. We also made use of the swimming pool and entertainment on site. Our children had the time of their lives. Check in was easy via a lock box and the owner sent us lots of useful information before we went.

The property had everything a guest would require! The host had sent detailed instructions and it was very informative and helpful. Really good and cosy place! Would definitely come back!
What could be improved: The holiday park didnt have much lights at night to guide us to the cottage. Thats something the holiday park needs to address and not the owner.Les from United Kingdom – 4 February 2025 (8/10)
Jono s place was lovely, a nice winter getaway
What could be improved: Only the pool was open didn't realise that until we got there but that was our fault and the parking area and rd outside was ripped up while we were there. But expect these things in winter. Expect it would be a 10 rating in the summerAndreea from United Kingdom – 16 December 2024 (9/10)
