Look, I’ll be honest – when I first pulled up to Bay Retreat Villas in St Merryn, I wasn’t quite sure what to expect. The place sits tucked away in this quiet park setting, and you know what struck me immediately? How peaceful it felt compared to the bustle you get closer to Padstow’s harbor. It’s only about ten minutes by car to the main town, but it feels like you’re in your own little pocket of Cornwall.

The villas themselves are actually really well thought out – I mean, whoever designed these understood that people want space to spread out when they’re on holiday. My villa had this lovely kitchen that I ended up using way more than I planned (there’s a Tesco in St Merryn village, literally a few minutes’ walk if you need supplies). The living areas feel generous without being cavernous, and honestly, the beds are properly comfortable – none of that hotel mattress lottery you sometimes get. What I really appreciated was how quiet it stayed at night; the layout means you’re not hearing your neighbors through thin walls, which can be a real issue with some villa complexes.

The location is sort of perfect if you want to explore this bit of north Cornwall without dealing with Padstow’s summer crowds every single day. You’re close enough to walk down to Constantine Bay when the weather’s decent – it’s about fifteen minutes on foot through some lovely countryside, though I’d recommend driving if you’re carrying beach gear. And here’s something the booking sites don’t really tell you: you’re actually better positioned for hitting some of the less touristy beaches like Harlyn Bay and Mother Ivey’s Bay than if you stayed right in Padstow. The staff mentioned that a lot of guests end up discovering these spots and loving them more than the famous beaches everyone talks about. Parking was never an issue, which – trust me – is a blessing in this part of Cornwall during peak season. The whole setup just works well for families or couples who want a proper base rather than just a place to crash between sightseeing marathons.

  It was lovely and tidy and had everything that you would need
  
  What could be improved: After a few issues, which were sorted, the only issues were, the location. It was highlighted that you could walk to St Merryn, (a lovely local village) but it’s not possible with no pavement on a busy road
  
  The WiFi is very ‘hit n miss’ as we had 2 days with no WiFi and with no phone signal, caused a few issues
  
  Could do with some outdoor siting furniture too

  We had a fantastic stay at Bay Retreat Villas! The villa was spotlessly clean, modern, and well-equipped with everything we needed for a comfortable and relaxing break. The location was ideal—peaceful, yet just a short drive from Padstow and the beautiful beaches nearby.
  
  Check-in was smooth, and everything was exactly as described. We especially appreciated the private garden space and the quiet surroundings, perfect for unwinding after a day exploring the area.

  Perfect for exploring the Cornish area, everything you need in the property. Easy to book on line and keys in box outside so it does not matter when you arrive. Two couples staying and plenty of space. Very clean and lovely bedding. Very dog friendly.

  What could be improved: When we got there,their was no reception as stated,so we didn't know what to do,we rang the number we were given,we came home yesterday,still waiting for a return call.We worked it out in the end,your Emails need to be more clearer.
