You know what? I’ve walked down Broad Street in Newquay more times than I can count, and honestly, I always wondered about that charming little place tucked away at number 14. When I finally stayed at Bambu Cottage, it felt like discovering one of those local secrets you accidentally stumble upon. The name had me expecting something tropical and maybe a bit kitschy, but this 4-star gem is actually more sophisticated than that – think bamboo accents done tastefully, not like a tiki bar exploded everywhere.

The location is pretty brilliant if you know Newquay at all. Broad Street puts you right in the heart of things without being stuck in the absolute chaos of the seafront during peak summer madness. You’re literally a two-minute walk from the main beaches, but far enough back that you’re not dealing with the late-night revelers stumbling past your window at 2 AM (trust me, that matters if you’re not 19 anymore). I mean, you can still hear the distant sound of the waves if you open your windows, which is honestly perfect. There’s decent parking nearby too – not always guaranteed in this part of town, especially during the summer months when finding a space can feel like winning the lottery.

What really got me about Bambu Cottage was the attention to detail that you only notice when you’ve stayed in enough mediocre places to appreciate the difference. The rooms actually have proper reading lights (revolutionary concept, I know), and the beds are genuinely comfortable – not just “hotel comfortable” where you wake up wondering why your back hurts. The staff seems to actually live in the area and can give you real recommendations, not just point you toward the tourist traps on the main drag. They told me about this little coffee spot around the corner that I never would have found otherwise. The whole place has this relaxed vibe that matches Newquay’s surf culture without trying too hard to be trendy. That 9.5 rating isn’t just inflated review scores either – you can feel why people keep coming back here. It’s one of those places where you end up extending your stay if you can swing it, which is exactly what happened to me last September when the weather turned gorgeous just as I was supposed to leave.

  Great property, everything was perfect. Location close to centre of town was perfect for us, beds were very comfortable and everything was very clean. Would love to stay here again in the future!

  It is a beautiful property right in the town centre and all of the beautiful walks and beaches Newquay has to over.

  It was clean and nicely presented, also clear instructions on where to park, how to find the keys, and how to turn on the heating if needed. Brilliantly placed close to the beach and within walking distance of lots of restaurants

  What could be improved: Parking could be hit and miss but that’s understandable given the proximity to the town and beach. However, it was easy to stop long enough to drop off luggage.

  Very tastefully appointed with really lovely furnishings, comfortable beds and fab kitchen and bathroom. The location is excellent, close walk to seafront and beaches and also very close to a big supermarket. Easy to find.
