You know what caught me off guard about Atlantic View? The address makes it sound like you’re literally staying above a fish shop on the Penzance promenade – and well, you sort of are. But honestly, that’s part of its charm. I mean, you’re right there on the seafront with unobstructed views across Mount’s Bay, and the location is absolutely unbeatable if you want to be in the thick of things.

The flat itself is surprisingly spacious and thoughtfully done up – whoever designed this place actually gets what travelers want. The windows are these big, gorgeous things that frame the Atlantic perfectly, and on clear mornings you can see all the way to the Isles of Scilly on the horizon. I loved waking up to the sound of waves and seagulls instead of traffic, though fair warning – those gulls can get pretty chatty around dawn. The kitchen’s properly equipped too, which is handy because Penzance has this fantastic market on Saturdays where you can grab fresh everything. Actually, being right on the promenade means you’re a two-minute walk from some brilliant spots – the Admiral Benbow pub does excellent Sunday roasts, and if you head toward the Jubilee Pool (that amazing Art Deco lido), there’s a little bakery that does the best Cornish pasties I’ve had outside of St. Ives.

What really sold me on this place was how it balances being right in town with feeling like a proper seaside retreat. You’re close enough to hear the bustle from Chapel Street – especially during the summer festivals when things get properly lively – but the flat feels like your own little sanctuary above it all. Parking can be a bit of a mission during peak season (the seafront spots fill up fast), but there’s decent parking behind the town center that’s just a few minutes’ walk. The check-in was refreshingly straightforward too – none of that corporate hotel rigmarole, just practical information and genuine local recommendations. I actually ended up extending my stay because there’s something addictive about having your morning coffee while watching the fishing boats head out, then being able to stroll down to the Morrab Gardens or catch the ferry to the Scillies without any hassle. It’s the kind of place that makes you feel like a temporary local rather than just another tourist passing through.
