Hotel Description
You know what? I’ve stayed at plenty of places around Cornwall, but Apple Tree Bungalow in Redruth genuinely surprised me. I mean, Redruth isn’t exactly the first place tourists think of when they’re planning a Cornwall trip – most people bee-line straight to St. Ives or Padstow – but that’s actually what makes this spot so refreshing. It’s properly Cornish without the crowds, and honestly, the 9.3 rating makes total sense once you’ve been there.
The bungalow itself has this warm, lived-in feeling that you just don’t get at those sterile chain hotels. When I pulled up (parking’s easy, by the way – no wrestling with tiny spaces or meter stress), the first thing that hit me was how quiet it was. You’re close enough to the town center that you can walk to the shops on Fore Street, but far enough out that you’re not dealing with any traffic noise. The owners have clearly put thought into the details – proper blackout curtains that actually work, a shower with decent water pressure, and little touches like local biscuits and proper tea setup. The kind of stuff that makes you think “oh, these people actually get it.”
What really sold me though was the location for exploring proper Cornwall. Everyone bangs on about the coast (and fair enough, it’s gorgeous), but from here you’re perfectly positioned for the stuff tourists miss. The old mining areas around Camborne are fascinating if you’re into history, and you’re only twenty minutes from some brilliant walks on the moors that locals know but guidebooks skip. Plus – and this is key if you’re visiting in summer – you can actually get to places like Perranporth or Portreath beaches in about fifteen minutes, but you’re not paying those ridiculous coastal accommodation prices. I actually ended up extending my stay because it felt like I’d found this perfect base camp that nobody else knew about. The whole experience just felt… well, authentic, I suppose. Like staying with distant relatives who happen to be excellent hosts rather than checking into another forgettable hotel room.

Lovely kitchen and lounge. Comfortable beds. Great location. Good size.
What could be improved: We really enjoyed it all. Be aware the entrance to the drive is a little tight for those not used to Cornish driveways but once on the drive there is plenty of space.Weronika from United Kingdom – 12 August 2024 (10/10)
This house was amazing! I suffer for many allergies but in this house I was absolutely fine. House was nice, very clean & in great location. Also there was some great little things which made our stay better, like complimentary coffee, tea and milk as well as some travel books what we could find in the area.
