You know what struck me first about the Anacapri? It’s actually got this unexpectedly grand presence on Gyllyngvase Road – I mean, you’re walking along what feels like a pretty standard Falmouth street, and then boom, there’s this genuinely impressive five-star hotel that somehow doesn’t feel out of place. The whole setup just works, honestly. When I pulled up (parking was thankfully straightforward, which isn’t always a given in Cornwall), the staff had this relaxed professionalism that felt authentically Cornish rather than stuffily formal.

The location is honestly brilliant if you know Falmouth at all. Gyllyngvase Beach is literally right there – and I’m talking about the good beach, the one with the soft sand that locals actually use, not some rocky tourist trap. You can hear the waves from some of the rooms, which sounds cliché but it’s actually pretty lovely when you’re trying to fall asleep. The walk into Falmouth’s town center takes maybe ten minutes if you’re dawdling, fifteen if you stop to admire the harbor views (which you will). What really impressed me was how they’ve managed to feel both connected to everything and properly secluded – you’re close enough to pop down to the Chainlocker for a pint or grab supplies from the Co-op, but far enough from the main drag that you’re not dealing with hen parties stumbling past your window at 2 AM.

Here’s the thing about five-star places in Cornwall – sometimes they try too hard to be London fancy and it just feels wrong. The Anacapri gets it right, though. The interiors have this sort of elegant coastal thing going on without veering into nautical kitsch territory (no anchor motifs, thank god). The rooms I saw were genuinely spacious, which matters when you’re unpacking wet walking gear or spreading out maps for the next day’s adventure. Actually, the whole place has this relaxed luxury vibe – like someone took a proper posh hotel and let it breathe a bit. The restaurant situation is solid too, and honestly, when you’re paying five-star prices, you want to know you can eat well without having to trek into town every night. Service-wise, they seem to have figured out that balance between being helpful and not hovering – you know what I mean? Check-in was smooth, they knew their stuff about local walks and tide times, and nobody made me feel like a scruff for showing up in hiking boots. With an 8.9 rating, you’d expect it to deliver, and it really does. If you’re doing Cornwall properly – bit of beach time, bit of exploring, maybe some serious eating – this feels like the kind of place where you can actually relax between adventures.
