The Room Experience

My room overlooked the river, which was honestly mesmerizing — especially during high tide when the boats bob around like toys. The décor strikes this nice balance between traditional and contemporary, nothing too fussy but comfortable enough that you actually want to spend time there. The bed was properly comfortable (you’d be surprised how many coastal hotels skimp on this), and there’s decent storage space, which matters when you’re dealing with wet weather gear and beach stuff. The bathroom was well-appointed too, with a shower that actually had proper pressure.

The hotel’s restaurant focuses on local seafood, which makes perfect sense given where you are. I had the crab cakes one evening — clearly made with fresh local crab, not the frozen stuff you sometimes get. What I appreciated was that they didn’t try to overcomplicate things; good ingredients prepared well. Breakfast was solid too, with proper Cornish options alongside the usual fare. If you want to venture out, you’re spoiled for choice — there’s everything from traditional pubs serving proper pasties to more upscale dining just a short walk away.
