Hotel Description

You know what caught me off guard about 8 Oakridge? It’s one of those places that completely flies under the radar, tucked away in St Mellion where most people only think about the golf course. I mean, everyone knows about the PGA Championship course there, but this little gem sits quietly in the village proper, and honestly, it’s become my go-to whenever I’m down in this corner of Cornwall.

The first thing you notice isn’t actually the building itself – it’s how ridiculously peaceful everything feels once you’re off the main road through the village. There’s this lovely residential vibe along Oakridge that makes you feel like you’re staying in someone’s genuinely nice neighborhood rather than some touristy spot. The property itself has that comfortable, well-maintained feel of a place that’s been thoughtfully converted – you can tell someone actually cares about the details here. Check-in was refreshingly straightforward (no hovering around a busy lobby), and parking’s never been an issue, which anyone who’s driven around Cornwall in summer will appreciate.

What really sells me on this place, though, is how it sits perfectly between being close enough to everything but far enough from the madness. You’re literally a few minutes from the St Mellion golf complex if that’s your thing, but you’re also perfectly positioned for exploring the Tamar Valley without having to deal with Saltash traffic or Plymouth crowds. The Cornish side of the river here is still pretty unspoiled – there’s a lovely walk down to the old bridge at Calstock that takes about twenty minutes by car, and honestly, half the visitors to Cornwall never make it to this bit. The room quality definitely lives up to that 4-star rating too. Everything feels fresh and well-thought-out, with proper attention paid to things like decent lighting for reading and enough outlets where you actually need them (revolutionary concept, I know).

The 8.9 rating makes complete sense once you’ve been there – it’s not trying to be flashy or Instagram-perfect, but everything just works really well. The sort of place where you sleep properly because it’s genuinely quiet at night, and you wake up feeling like you’re somewhere special without all the fuss. I’ve stayed there in both spring and autumn, and while summer’s probably lovely, I’d actually recommend the shoulder seasons when you get the beautiful Cornish countryside without the crowds clogging up the lanes. If you’re looking for somewhere that feels like a proper retreat but keeps you connected to some of Cornwall’s best bits – the ones that aren’t plastered all over every travel blog – this is exactly what you want.

Reviews

  • Linda from United Kingdom – 17 June 2025 (9/10)

The property is very nice, well equipped and scrupulously clean.

What could be improved: Not a problem with the property itself…. but the check out time showing on Booking.com was up to 10:30am however the cleaners arrived just before 10am and said check out was by 10am. It's be a good idea to clarify this.

  • Michelle from United Kingdom – 25 May 2025 (9/10)

Location was great and the use of the facilities at St Mellion an added bonus.

  • Sarah from Australia – 30 December 2024 (9/10)

Equipped with everything we needed, in a lovely quiet area but a short drive to shops and activities. Perfect for our family of 4.

  • Jackie from United Kingdom – 27 August 2024 (9/10)

The property was well equipped and very clean , had everything we needed.
It was in a lovely quiet area just what we needed after being out in busy areas every day nice to come back and relax.
The bonus was the golf leisure club being able to use the spa free of charge my grandchildren loved the warm pool, we all didn’t want to come home

What could be improved: Nothing we loved it all

  • Paul from Kazakhstan – 13 July 2024 (9/10)

Excellent fully equipped house in the middle of nature.

    What could be improved: Nothing

  • Amy from United Kingdom – 2 October 2023 (8/10)

    Beautiful setting. Tranquil & calm

What could be improved: No blinds inthe bedrooms even though there were tracks for it. Wouldn't have been happy to wake at 5am with out them in June or July.

Some bulbs were out around the house.

  • Alan from United Kingdom – 4 June 2023 (9/10)

well appointed and clean with all the facilities we needed

What could be improved: the Steps were a challenge after a few days and I fell whilst carrying a suitcase but all in all it is a lovely and enjoyable stay

  • Siobhán from United Kingdom – 27 October 2022 (9/10)

A wonderful peaceful house that is spotlessly clean and had everything you could think of. Every time I thought, it would be useful if.. I opened a cupboard and there it was.
Perfect for a little family getaway.
There was a useful leaflet pack of places to go and we took advantage of having them on the first day and went on three fantastic days out.
The property has use of the spa at the golf club and although it says you can walk, it was getting dark when we wanted to go, so it is a short 6min drive back up. The members cards got us entry into the spa swimming pool with our kids too.

What could be improved: If I was going to be picky I'd say that it would be useful if they had toilet roll holders in the bathroom, but that's really picky. The whole place is wonderful. Thank you so much. I

  • Paula from United Kingdom – 3 September 2022 (9/10)

The lodge was absolutely beautiful we had such a lovely few days with our grandson. The views were stunning. Would definitely return. The bedrooms also lovely with ensuite bathrooms a bonus.

What could be improved: Nothing not to like.

  • Emma from United Kingdom – 9 July 2022 (9/10)

perfectly situated for peace & relaxation, beautiful spacious property with everything you need for a break from reality – the spa was the icing on the cake
