Look, I’ve stayed at a lot of places in Newquay over the years, and honestly? Ocean Gate apartment number 6 is one of those finds that makes you want to keep quiet about it – except I can’t help myself because it’s just that good. Right on Esplanade Road, you’re literally a two-minute walk from the beach, and I mean the proper bit of beach where locals actually go, not just the touristy stretch by the harbor.
The apartment itself sits in this gorgeous Victorian building that’s been converted beautifully – you know, the kind where they actually bothered to keep the character instead of gutting everything. When you walk in, there’s this lovely natural light that streams through these massive windows facing the ocean (hence the name, I suppose), and you can actually hear the waves at night, which sounds cliché but trust me, it’s the best kind of white noise for sleeping. The kitchen’s properly equipped too – I’m talking decent knives, a coffee machine that actually works, real plates instead of those awful melamine things you get in some holiday lets. There’s even a dishwasher, which might not sound exciting but when you’re planning to stay in and cook after a long day exploring the coastal path, it’s absolutely brilliant.
What really gets me about this place is the location – you’re close enough to walk into town for dinner (Maharajah on Fore Street does incredible curry, by the way), but far enough from the main drag that you don’t get the late-night chaos that comes with being right in the thick of things. The Esplanade Road area has this lovely residential feel, and there’s decent parking nearby which is honestly half the battle in Newquay during summer. I stayed in September last year and the weather was still gorgeous, but the crowds had thinned out – perfect timing really. The apartment stays surprisingly quiet too, even with the windows open, though you might catch the occasional seagull argument in the morning (part of the Cornish experience, I’d say). The hosts have clearly thought about the little things – proper blackout curtains, good WiFi that doesn’t cut out every five minutes, and they left some local recommendations that were actually useful rather than just the obvious tourist spots. I mean, they pointed me toward this fantastic bakery on Bank Street that I never would have found otherwise. If you’re planning to explore beyond Newquay – and you should, the drive to St. Ives is stunning – this makes a perfect base without feeling like you’re staying in some soulless hotel chain.

We absolutely loved our stay here. The apartment is so spacious and the view of Fistral beach is fabulous. The surf storage is a brilliant facility which we made full use of. This will definitely be our number 1 choice of places to stay when in Newquay from now on. Just perfection.

A very high quality clean spacious and comfortable apartment, with stunning views from the balcony overlooking fistral beach, situated in the perfect location. The host Nikki was very helpful throughout and always on hand to assist if needed. I would 100% recommend and i definetly will be staying here again.
