You know what struck me first about this place? The name is a bit of a mouthful – “2022 Brand New Stylish Flat in Central Hayle” – but honestly, it’s pretty accurate. The Coach House really is brand new, and you can tell the moment you walk in. Everything’s got that fresh, untouched feel without being sterile, if that makes sense.

I’ve stayed in quite a few places around Cornwall, and Hayle’s one of those spots that people either drive straight through to get to St. Ives or completely overlook altogether. Big mistake, actually. This flat sits right in the heart of town, which means you’re walking distance to the estuary – and I mean proper walking distance, not that “short stroll” nonsense that turns out to be twenty minutes uphill. You can actually hear the gulls from the windows, which sounds cliché but it’s surprisingly soothing. The town itself has this lovely working feel to it, not all polished up for tourists like some coastal spots. There’s a brilliant little bakery just down the road that does proper Cornish pasties (locals queue there, always a good sign), and the RSPB reserve at Hayle Estuary is literally on your doorstep – perfect if you’re into birdwatching or just fancy a peaceful walk.

The flat itself really lives up to that 10 rating. The design’s modern but not trendy-for-the-sake-of-it, you know? Clean lines, plenty of natural light, and – this matters more than you’d think – really good water pressure in the shower. The kitchen’s actually equipped for proper cooking, not just reheating takeaway, and there’s decent counter space if you grab supplies from the Tesco just up the road. Parking was straightforward too, which is honestly a relief after trying to navigate some of Cornwall’s medieval street layouts with a rental car. The whole place stays surprisingly quiet considering you’re in the town center – I was worried about noise but even on Saturday night it was peaceful. Check-in was dead easy, very responsive hosts who clearly know what they’re doing. Only tiny niggle? The WiFi occasionally stuttered during evening hours, but that might’ve just been everyone in town streaming Netflix simultaneously. Overall though, it’s one of those rare places where the reality actually matches the photos – maybe even exceeds them a bit. If you’re looking for a base to explore this part of Cornwall without the St. Ives crowds and prices, this Coach House flat is honestly a brilliant find.
