You know what struck me first about 20 Strawberry Hill? It’s actually tucked away in this quiet residential pocket of Hayle that most tourists completely miss – which is honestly perfect if you’re trying to escape the summer crowds that descend on the more obvious Cornish spots. The cottage itself has that proper lived-in charm without feeling shabby, if you know what I mean. It’s the kind of place where someone clearly thought about the details: thick towels that don’t feel like sandpaper, a kitchen that’s actually equipped for real cooking (not just instant noodles), and beds that don’t leave you feeling like you’ve wrestled a particularly stubborn cow all night.

The location is sort of brilliant in a sneaky way. You’re literally a five-minute walk from Hayle’s town center – and I mean an actual five minutes, not that inflated estate agent version of time. There’s this fantastic bakery on Fore Street that does proper Cornish pasties (none of that tourist trap nonsense), and honestly, the locals there will chat your ear off about the best hidden beaches if you time it right. What really sold me though was how close you are to both the Hayle Estuary and those massive sandy stretches toward Gwithian. The estuary walk is gorgeous when the tide’s out – you’ll see herons and probably some very judgmental seals. And parking? Well, it’s not London, so you won’t be circling blocks like a demented vulture.

The cottage sleeps five comfortably, which actually means five people without anyone ending up on a fold-out torture device masquerading as a sofa bed. The living room has this cozy, slightly rambling feel with enough space to spread out when the weather turns (and let’s be honest, this is Cornwall – it will turn at least once during your stay). I mean, the Wi-Fi works perfectly fine if you need to pretend you’re working, but you’re so close to some of the best coastal walks in this part of Cornwall that you’d be mad to spend much time indoors. The whole place just feels like someone’s favorite holiday home rather than a sterile rental property, complete with local guidebooks that are actually useful and not just glossy promotional materials. That 9.4 rating isn’t some marketing magic – it’s because this place delivers exactly what it promises without any unpleasant surprises lurking behind the pretty photos.

  Host sent a map clearing showing where property was. All apartments are clearly numbered and parking is very accessible. Rooms were spotlessly clean, and kitchen had lots of space for cooking. Bathroom included a bath, which with two little ones was much appreciated after a day at the beach!!! We celebrated my little boys 6th birthday in the apartment too, lots of room for 5 people and toys!

  A great holiday, a cosy cottage and lovely location. Felt homely even though we were only there for a few days.
