You know what? I wasn’t expecting much when I first pulled up to 11 Granite Henge in Pelynt – honestly, the name alone had me wondering what I’d gotten myself into. But this little four-star gem tucked away in this quiet Cornish village actually surprised me in all the right ways. The building itself has this lovely stone character that feels properly local (none of that generic hotel chain nonsense), and when you’re standing outside, you get this immediate sense that you’re somewhere genuinely special rather than just another roadside stop.

The thing about Pelynt is that most people zoom right past it on their way to the bigger coastal towns, which is exactly why staying here works so well. You’re close enough to all the good stuff – I mean, you can reach Polperro or Looe in about ten minutes by car – but you actually get to experience what rural Cornwall feels like when it’s not packed with tourists taking selfies. The staff here seem to get that balance too; they’ll point you toward the proper local spots (there’s this brilliant little pub walk they recommended that I never would’ve found otherwise) but they’re not constantly hovering or trying to upsell you on everything. Check-in was refreshingly straightforward, and parking is right there which honestly makes such a difference when you’re hauling luggage around.

What really sold me on the place, though, was how quiet it gets in the evenings – you know that proper countryside quiet where you can actually hear yourself think? The rooms have this cozy, lived-in feel without being stuffy or overdone, and the beds are genuinely comfortable (I’m picky about this stuff). Sure, it’s not going to blow you away with fancy amenities or flashy features, but sometimes you just want a place that does the basics really well and lets the location speak for itself. The 8.6 rating makes perfect sense to me – it’s the kind of spot where everything works smoothly, the value feels right, and you end up having a better time than you expected. If you’re planning to explore this part of Cornwall and want somewhere that feels authentic rather than touristy, this is definitely worth considering.

  Located a few minutes drive outside Looe, the bungalow is on a quiet small and well presented private site- with an allocated parking space. There is an outdoor heated swimming pool on site also, which was very nice. Although compact the bungalow provided everything we wanted and needed for our stay. It consists of a living room/ kitchenette, bathroom and 2 bedrooms. The kitchen has a washing machine, toaster, microwave and oven. It is well stocked with cooking utensils and crockery. The bathroom was a comfortable size with good access to basin and toilet and the shower spacious and easy to use. The beds were comfortable. The place was clean and well presented. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay there and would whole heartedly recommend it.
